What is a DBA?

DBA is what is called Doing Business As. Sole proprietors and general partners often choose to do this. For example: business owner John Sally might file the DBA name as “Sally Roofing”. Corporations and LLC’s may register DBA names for specific lines of business.

What is a Sole Proprietor?

A sole proprietor is a business owner who is not a legal entity. It simply refers to a person who owns the business and is responsible for the business debts. We encourage sole proprietors to at least register their business as DBA with the state.
